Biodiversity Victor Harbor is a community-driven, not-for-profit organisation established in 2022.
Incorporated and registered as a charity, Biodiversity Victor Harbor unites individuals and groups from diverse backgrounds who share a deep commitment to our region's natural environment.

Our Purpose
Care for the natural environment by preserving and enhancing the biodiversity and sustainability of the region.
Our Objectives
Research, facilitate, develop, promote, support and implement biodiversity and sustainability concepts and projects.
Promote, advocate, educate, inform, and encourage the community to adopt proactive biodiversity and sustainability thinking and behaviours.
Create opportunities for the community to volunteer and support the Association's initiatives and programs. Such opportunities may include a Community Nursery as a resource of plants.
Engage and collaborate with the Indigenous community to achieve these aims and objectives.
Engage proactively with government, businesses, other community groups/associations and the community, drawing on their goodwill, experience, skills, resources, and funding to achieve these aims and objectives.
To do all things that the Association and Management Committee may think necessary or desirable for promoting the Objectives of the Association.
Our Patron
Our Patron - Professor Hugh Possingham
Our Patron, Professor Hugh Possingham (FAA, BS, D. Phil) grew up in South Australia, with a close connection to Victor Harbor. He is a globally renowned conservation biologist, mathematician, and applied ecologist who has made transformative contributions to biodiversity preservation.
Best known as the co-creator of Marxan, a conservation planning software used to design protected areas covering 5% of the Earth's surface, including the Great Barrier Reef, Hugh has published over 650 scientific papers and mentored 135 doctoral and postdoctoral researchers. He has held prestigious roles such as Queensland Chief Scientist, Chief Scientist of The Nature Conservancy, and Director of the ARC Centre of Excellence for Environmental Decisions. A Rhodes Scholar with a D.Phil. from Oxford University, Hugh has received numerous accolades, including the Eureka Prizes and election to the Australian Academy of Science. His visionary work continues to inspire and shape global efforts to safeguard our natural world.
