Clean Up Australia Sunday 2nd March - Victor Harbor organised by Victor Harbor Costcare

From humble beginnings in 1990, Clean-Up Australia Day has become one of the country's iconic days - like the start of the Sydney Hobart Yacht Race & the Boxing Day Cricket Test.   In 50+ years since, some 22+ million people have participated in collecting thousands of tonnes of rubbish from the environment.

This year's Clean-Up Australia Day is on Sunday 2nd March 2025.

'It's amazing the things we find' said Loreto Cameron, the President of the Victor Harbor Coastcare, who has been coordinating the local event for more than 20 years.
Sadly, people choose to dump their rubbish within the pristine dunes along our coastline', she added.
'We've removed mattresses, BBQ's, car tyres and in one year there was nearly a complete kitchen.'

Each year, the group recovers some 10 to 15 wheat sacks full of rubbish of all manner of items, with unfortunately, used syringes being common.

The group will be meeting outside the Causeway coffee shop on Sunday 2nd March at 8.45am to register for a 9am start thru' to about 11am.

The target area will be the beach dunes between the Inman and Hindmarsh Rivers.

Everyone is welcome to come along, added Loreto. We frequently have family groups joining us.
Clean-up kits are provided. However, everyone is encouraged to wear a hat, study footwear and bring a pair of 'gardening' gloves.

You can register on the day, or per the Clean-Up Australia website, or by sending Loreto a text on 0408 828 277.
We look forward to seeing you there.
