What this talk is about (and why it matters to you)

A new Biodiversity Act has been developed for South Australia — and it will affect how we care for land, native vegetation, and biodiversity.

You’ll hear:

  • How the law was developed and amended, and what ultimately passed through Parliament

  • What the new law is trying to do (without the jargon)

  • What the Act might mean for farmers, landholders, businesses, and the community

  • What are the opportunities for those interested in supporting and stewarding SA’s unique biodiversity?

Whether you run a farm, manage land, work in local government, or just care about the environment, this session will help you understand: “What does this actually mean for me?”, and “How can the law help us to look after our natural environment?”

Importantly, there will be a chance to ask questions and have a conversation about how the new Act is expected to work.

Note: seating is limited and booking is strongly advised.

Afterwards, why not pop into the bistro for a lovely meal. (At your cost)

About the speaker – Michael Cornish

Michael Cornish heads up policy and advocacy at the Australian Land Conservation Alliance (ALCA), Australia’s peak body for land conservation.
In this role, Michael collaborates and advocates on a wide range of Federal, State and Territory legislative and policy issues to support ALCA’s 23 member organisations to conserve, manage, and restore nature, predominantly on privately managed land.

Prior to joining the environment sector, Michael’s professional experience has ranged across law, economics, international aid, academia, and Australian and international politics.
Michael and his family live in the Adelaide Hills, and he is parochially proud of his region’s natural environment.
