Our goal this year is to plant 2,500 native (endemic to the area) seedlings & guards🌱 in key areas of the Bluff with the help of amazing volunteers.

Who should come?
Everyone. Individuals, friends, families – young and old.
Social clubs, work groups, schools, sporting groups – locals & visitors to the area.

Please register to help us with our planning & in case we need to contact you.
You can also register on the day @ the Bluff. Come for an hour or as long as you like.

The Community Planting Festival will take place on the 'Bluff' Victor Harbor, above the Petrel Cove car park. It's here: (to be created)

The importance of the Bluff & this project

The Bluff Reserve is botanically, culturally and geologically, one of the region’s most significant reserves.
Click on the link at the bottom to find more information about the Bluff and the importance of this project.

What to bring

  • Weather-appropriate clothing (sun, wind, rain)
  • Sturdy footwear (work boots, gumboots)
  • Gardening gloves & a hand trowel/mallet (rubber/wooden) to knock small wooden stakes in the ground to secure plant guards.
  • Water bottle
  • Personal medication (asthma puffer, EpiPen, pain relief)

Other useful items

  • Bucket (to carry tools & water bottle)
  • Kneeling pad/stool for comfort
  • Waterproof bag (for dirty boots & wet gear

Level of difficulty & area being planted
The general area is slightly sloped and easily accessible to most people.
The ground surface is slightly uneven, with current vegetation being predominantly grass. Tread lightly as there are likely to be some delicate native species.
You may come across a short-beaked Echidna.
Catering

Rotary Victor Harbor will have their BBQ trailer for a delicious 'brunch'. A coffee van will be onsite for you to purchase a lovely caffeine delight.
Drinking water will be available – don't forget to bring a cup or mug to re-use during the day.
Parking & Toilets

There'll be a 'drop off / pick-up' area close to the planting area.
There are heaps of parking along the road shoulders and several other car parks on the Bluff.
A portable loo will be on site. The other nearest public toilets are at the boat ramp.
Inclusivity & Access
We will have specific easier access areas available for those with mobility restrictions and groups with young children. Please ensure adequate levels of support and care.

Our Partners
Biodiversity Victor Harbor is the only group in South Australia, and one of just 28 nationally, participating in the Bupa Landcare Australia Healthy Cities Challenge.
The program will see more than 96,500 native trees, shrubs and ground cover planted across Australia, linking
 environmental health with community well-being.

Collaboration
This project is a collaboration with local environmental groups, the Biodiversity Team of the City of Victor Harbor and Rotary Victor Harbor.

Recording the event
We would like to take photos to record the festival. This will give us a 'historical snapshot' of the festival and, importantly, the status of vegetation at the time. We and our partners would like to use some of them in the future. Please let us know if you would prefer not to be in them.
