Propagation kicked off for the new season
We're starting to fill our pop-up nursery again with a target of over 6000 seedlings this year.
Propagation will continue in bursts as different species are ready to be 'pricked out' from the germination trays into the tubestocks. Other species are taken from cuttings which are also placed in tubestocks.
If you would like to be involved and/or can go on the watering roster (very easy, we have automatic sprinklers), pop a line to Loreto on nature@biodiverstiyvictor.org.au.
The next session is Monday 20th October at 9am.

Remember the planting on the Bluff back in June
Shhh – it hasn't been officially announced. We have been successful in the next round of grants from Landcare Aust. and Bupa for this year. We will be propagating another 2500 seedlings for a planting on the Bluff sometime in June / July as a community planting festival. Rotary clubs will be involved again, as will all the environmental groups – oh yeah, we can't forget the coffee van.

City of Victor Harbor Environment Management Plan 2030 – Draft out for consultation. This is important.
Hey, it's really important that you have a read and have your say.
You'll find it here on the council website
Bio-VH is lodging a submission and we are seeking your input. If you can send to Peter Sharley (petersharley@biodiversityvictor.org.au) by Wed 15th, he will correlate the submission and then send the Bio-VH submission out to you – which you can submit indicating you support it. Consultation closes Friday 17th (yep short notice sorry)

Great Southern Reef Film Night & Guest Presenters
Monday 3rd November Victor Cinema 7pm
We're delighted to bring together the Great Southern Reef Foundation and the Wilderness Society (SA) for film and guest presentations. The waters here on the South Coast form part of the Great Southern Reef, which spans some 8000kms from the west coast of Western Australia, around southern Australia to the East Coast.
We are delighted to have Stefan Andrews, Marine Biologist and Co-founder of the Great Southern Reef Foundation, who will present Whiterock, a 35-minute film of the devastation being caused to the Giant Kelp Forest of the GSR.
Peter Owen, Director of the Wilderness Society (SA) will take us on a journey over 20 years to protect the Great Southern Bight. The Wilderness Society has worked in collaboration to deliver a highly protected land and sea conservation estate across the Nullarbor and Great Australian Bight. Their successful campaign to stop the fossil fuel industry expanding into this extraordinary part of Australia also helped to secure a policy commitment from the South Australian Government to support World Heritage Listing for the region.
Peter and Stefan will form a panel for Q&A with the audience.
Entry – Gold coin donation
Make sure to bring your family and friends

Festive Season drinks and nibbles – Nangawooka
Monday 1st December from 4ish.
We're having drinks and nibbles to celebrate the festive season and the huge year we've had.
Kicking off at about 4pm in the pavilion @ Nangawooka Floral Reserve. Bring your own drinks and a plate to share. Partners are more than welcome.
There are tables and chairs – however, we suggest bringing a fold-up chair with you.
Nangawooka is located opposite Urrimbirra Wildlife Park – at the beginning of Waterport Road, near the large roundabout on Adelaide Road.
There is an unsealed track that runs next to the boundary fence which takes you up near the pavilion. There is ample parking there.
There will be a cacophony into the late afternoon as the birds settle in for the evening.
PS. Don't forget the insect spray.

Fleurieu Swamp - draft National Recovery Plan
The Swamps of the Fleurieu Peninsula are localised wetlands occurring in high rainfall areas in the local catchment areas of Tookayerta, Hindmarsh, Parawa, Myponga, Yankalilla, Onkparinga, Currency Creek and Finniss. They are densely vegetated and occur adjacent to waterlogged soils around low-lying creeks and flats. The Swamps are typified by their reedy or heathy vegetation growing on peat, silt, peat silt, or black clay soils.
The Swamps of the Fleurieu Peninsula are home to a number of plants and animals that are listed as endangered under the EPBC Act, and that are found nowhere else in Australia. Foremost amongst these is the Mount Lofty Ranges Southern Emu-wren. Without protecting the Swamps, these endangered plants and animals will also become extinct in the wild.
The Federal Government has released a Fleurieu Swamps draft National Recovery Plan for consultation. We encourage you to read and make comments. You will find it here

Horseshoe Bay – Consultation
The Alexandrina 25km coastline has significant cultural, social, environmental, and economic value to our local community, the Ngarrindjeri Nation and visitors to the region. Rising sea levels will exacerbate erosion and seawater inundation in many coastal areas.
Recent investigations indicate the Horseshoe Bay shoreline will recede by up to 12m by 2050 and 25m by 2100, placing built infrastructure at risk.
An independent coastal engineer appointed by the Council has investigated the projected impacts of coastal hazards such as sea level rise and coastal erosion in the Bay.
Options for mitigation have been identified, along with their associated trade-offs, including effectiveness, cost, risk, and environmental impacts.

Latest Update re Community Biodiversity Nursery
Council is currently negotiating to acquire land for the nursery. Whilst the sales and transfer process is being worked out, we're advised that the council is happy to work with our Nursery Team to start the process of site design and costing. This is likely to occur in the New Year. Yeah.
Cheers,
All the Best from the Management Committee, Biodiversity Victor Harbor
