Gold Coast style Marina proposed for Eastern Beach Victor Harbor
– make sure you have your say (Consultation closes 30th Jan)

A proposal for a large-scale marina at Eastern Beach, Victor Harbor — described by community groups as being of “Gold Coast proportions” — has reignited widespread concern about environmental damage, loss of public space, and long-term financial risk for ratepayers.

The City of Victor Harbor has released its Draft Recreational Boating Strategy 2025 for public consultation. While the strategy outlines upgrades to existing boating facilities across the region, it also flags investigation of a major new marina linked to a proposed Eastern Beach boat ramp.

Although presented as a long-term vision for “safer, sustainable and fit-for-purpose” boating infrastructure, the scale and location of the marina proposal has alarmed residents, environmental organisations, and coastal care groups.

You will find Bio-VH article here

Bio-VH doesn't support the Boating Strategy as it is presented.
In particular, we reject the Eastern Beach Marina / Facility.

This will be the thrust of our submission.

We believe there are other cost-effective solutions available that don't impact on the importance of the Sea Rescue operations, which do not include the Marina / Facility.
Biodiversity Victor Harbor is more than happy to meet with the Sea Rescue representatives for discussions.

Community Voices Matter — Make a Submission
We are asking you, family and friends to make their concerns heard.
Importantly, numbers count.

(We understand the boating community across the state are encouraging boaters to submit to support the boating strategy.)

You don't have to have a boat licence, own a boat, live or own property in Victor Harbor to make a submission.

Public consultation on the Draft Recreational Boating Strategy 2025:

Opened: 3 December 2025
       Closes: 5:00pm, Friday 30 January 2026

Meeting Changes (Note no general meeting on Monday Feb 2nd)
The Management Committee is currently reviewing our meetings.
As we are now well and truly up and running with all our organisational arrangements now in place and working pretty well (ie administration etc).
We're looking at making the general meetings more interesting / engaging and perhaps a little bit less often.
We're looking at more guest speakers, perhaps visiting interesting places (ie the CLLMM - Coorong Lower Lakes Murray Mouth Research Centre @ Goolwa.
(We'll deal with the organisational side of the group at more management committee meetings).
Naturally, we'll always bring important things to the general meetings and members are always welcome to pop along to the committee meetings.
If you have any ideas or suggestions for guest speakers or places to visit, let the management committee know.

Best wishes
Management Committee
