In February 2025, beachgoers along the Fleurieu Peninsula noticed something unusual: foam gathering in the surf, a strange discoloration to the water, and then, within days, the tragic sight of lifeless fish and rays drifting onto the sand. By autumn, the scale of what was unfolding became unmistakable. South Australia was facing one of the largest marine ecological disasters in living memory, and the Fleurieu was right at its heart.
